About us

The International Airlines Technical Pool (IATP) is a convention of airlines made up of over 130 Member Airlines, 45 “Sponsored” Airlines, and over 40 OEM and service providers (called Associate Members). In the spirit of co-operation, members of the aviation industry gather twice yearly to discuss sharing of resources, reducing costs, while improving operating efficiency. Under its auspices, members “pool” (share) Aircraft Recovery kits, Spare Parts, Equipment, Line Maintenance and Aircraft Engines for both narrow and wide bodies.

The membership has grown to boast more than 500 delegates around the world, making it a diverse and multi-cultural community. There are no boundaries and every member is encouraged to bring forward their ideas, suggestions and opinions without any political prejudice. In the spirit of a "global village" environment, IATP promotes goodwill towards all its members, explores new directions within the frame of its mission, and respects the interest of all member airlines.

IATP is well known in the aviation world as the “best solution” to resolve quickly and efficiently AOG situations: the post-pandemic utilization of the IATP platform functionality for this emergency has doubled.

Within its 76-year history promoting unparalleled safety in the skies, this organization has not only contributed immensely to the aviation industry as we know it today, but has also forged strong bonds between airlines around the world. Competing airlines are united in the technical field. This bond, which began in 1948, was originally based solely on a gentlemen's agreement. Also, now its mission to provide excellent technical performance in aircraft operations is unmatched due to the high degree of mutual assistance from all member airlines.

IATP governance is assured by the Advisory Committee while the day-to-day activities are managed by the Management Board and Corporate Office team. Several Project Groups and Committees have been set up in order to address current industry challenges and maintain the IATP to the highest levels of expertise.

Establishment of the first IATP Corporate Office in Frankfurt with staff. The synergies of IATA / IATP are being explored. Introduction of first platform.
1977

A second organization, the "North American Airlines Technical Pool" (N.A.A.T.P.), consisting of 16 airlines from North America, merged with IATP in February 1977.
1971

In April 1971 the term "Steering Committee" was changed to "Management Committee".
1967

In February 1967 at a meeting in Paris the organization's name was changed to "International Airlines Technical Pool" and has been known since that date, throughout the world, as IATP.
1960

In March 1960, at a meeting in Lucerne, Switzerland, the "Consolidated Pool" was formulated under the guidance of a "Steering Committee". The family of airlines counted around 24 members.
1950

By this year, more international airlines had joined the group and it became difficult to maintain a reciprocal balance of pooled resources, so formulas were introduced to provide for financial settlement.
1948

A few European airlines started sharing aircraft materials, equipment and manpower resources. This cooperation, although covered by a contract, was a gentlemen's agreement and entirely reciprocal without financial settlement.

The IATP Semi-annual Conference offers a multitude of events that allow attendees to connect with over 130 airlines from around the world. This unique venue gives you the opportunity to conduct your pooling business – whether it's spare parts or line maintenance – in the most efficient manner while allowing you to share your industry knowledge, network, reunite with colleagues, and much more!

The 131^st IATP Conference, took place in RIU Plaza Panama Hotel, in Panama City, Panama, on February 22 – 26, 2025. The conference was attended by around 500 Airline, Associate Member and Authorized Guest Vendor’s representatives coming from all over the world.

More than 2,200 B2B meetings took place among the participants to discuss and finalize terms and conditions for pooling agreements regarding spare parts, aircraft recovery, equipment and line maintenance support for the forthcoming season.

The new “First Time attendees’ welcome session” was well attended and received a positive feedback from the participants.

The Engines Pool group continues to grow, and the meeting was highly participated. The idea of this pool group is to offer to the Airline Members the possibility to resolve quickly, efficiently and with competitive fees, any unscheduled engine removals. Two pooling options are currently offered: participating in one/several engine (s) with guaranteed availability or without guaranteed availability. If the guaranteed availability option is chosen, upon payment of a monthly fee, an engine will be shipped within 24 hours from the initial request, following completion of the required legal/compliance process.

The “AOG Speed Meetings” were once again received with great interest, showing excellent attendee participation and productivity.

While 4 Observer Airlines joined the 131^st Conference, IATP warmly welcomed 3 new Member Airlines and 1 Associate Member, reaching another new record of 138 Member Airlines and 44 Associate Members!

PANAMA – PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Visa Exemption
There is a Law in effect regarding tourist visas for entering the Republic of Panama; EXECUTIVE DECREE # 521 states that:
Article 1: "Any person of nationality who requires a visa to enter the Republic of Panama, who has a valid Visa or Residence, duly issued by Canada, the United States of America, the Commonwealth of Australia, the Republic of Korea, the State of Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Republic of Singapore and any of the States that make up the European Union, may enter the national territory"
Article 2: The visa granted by the countries mentioned in the previous article must be a multiple entry visa, has been used previously in the territory of the granting State and its validity shall not be less than six (6) months at the time of entering Panamanian territory. If you meet the following requirements, you will qualify for the aforementioned decree:

Has a valid passport with a minimum of three months validity.
Has a multiple entry visa with six (6) months of remaining validity from ONE of the following countries: Canada, United States of America, Commonwealth of Australia, Republic of Korea, State of Japan, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland North, Republic of Singapore and any of the States that make up the European Union.
You must have used this visa to enter the country. For example, if you have a visa from the United States, you must have entered the United States with that visa in order to qualify for the exemption.
Migration Officers are accepting the visa exemption of Executive Decree # 521, if the holder has a valid permanent residence card of the United States.
You must also show proof of economic solvency for a minimum of US $ 500.00 upon entering. NOTE: Make sure you have a minimum of three months of validity in your passport and a round trip ticket.
The maximum amount of time that you can stay in Panama is 30 days.

No Visa is required if you are citizen of any of the following countries (The maximum amount of time that you can stay in Panama is three (3) months).

Electricity

Panama uses power outlets and plugs of types A & B.
Type A: mostly used in the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America, China and Japan. No other plug types will fit in a type A outlet.
Type B: similar to type A, but with an extra pin for grounding. Mainly used in the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America and Japan.
Plugs of type A will also fit into a type B socket.
All power sockets in Panama provide a standard voltage of 110V with a standard frequency of 60Hz. You might require an adaptor.
It is recommended to either bring a universal adapter or buy one once you arrive in Panama.

Panama is 5 hours behind Coordinated Universal time (UTC-5)

Currency:

Panama’s official currency is the balboa. The rate of exchange for the balboa is tied to the US dollar—one dollar equals one balboa. Panama does not, however, print its own paper currency and instead uses the US dollar as legal tender. Panamanian coins come in 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50-cent pieces. They are the same size, color, and weight as U.S. coins and both are used frequently. In Panama you may see prices with either a “$” or a “B/” before them, corresponding the dollars or balboas. They mean the same and have the same value.

How to become a Member Airline

An Airline may be eligible to become member of the IATP if:

It has been granted an air operator’s certificate (AOC) by a civil aviation authority (CAA).
It is fit, willing and able to act as Provider at not less than one station in respect of each group in which it wishes to participate.
It has familiarized itself with the procedures and practices of pooling.
At stations within its own country the pooling of technical facilities or services under this Agreement is not in any way restricted or prohibited.

If an airline satisfies the conditions above and wishes to join the organization the following procedures are to be followed:

All decisions concerning the admission of new parties shall be taken at a Consolidated Meeting.
The applicant shall submit a Letter of Application and a Standard Application Form (see Annex "A") to the Advisory Committee Membership Coordinator. Full documentation must be received at least 60 days prior the start of the Consolidated Meeting for the season in which the airline desires to be admitted.
The Advisory Committee Membership Coordinator, having ascertained that the form has been fully completed, shall send a copy thereof to all parties.

The applicant shall be admitted as a party to this Agreement when: 90% of the members present at the Consolidated Meeting (whether in person or by proxy) vote to accept the applicant as a member of IATP and The applicant has executed and lodged with the Custodian a counterpart of this Agreement.

A party to this Agreement may become a member of any pool group upon receiving the approval of the members of that group. A standard Application Form shall first be submitted to the group chairman (unless such form has already been submitted in respect of that group under the foregoing provisions of this Article) and the chairman shall send a copy to each group member. The applicant shall become a member of the group upon receiving the approval of 90% of the members of the group present at the meeting (whether in person or by proxy) at which the vote is taken.

How to become an Associate Member

A supplier shall be eligible to become an IATP Associate Member, at the discretion of the IATP Advisory Committee, if:

The supplier is a provider of goods or services to the aviation industry and particularly to the IATP membership in any of the following areas:
- Spares pooling (Supplier provided parts)
- Component, engine or airframe repair and overhaul
- Ground handling
- Technical services
- Training
- Logistics
- Transportation services
and shall not be a holder of an Air Carrier Operations Certificate and/or not operating as an airline.
The supplier holds the appropriate government certifications and licenses for the goods or services supplied.
The supplier has attended five (5) IATP member airline conference out of the last consecutive seven (7) prior to application submission and attended the Supplier training session on Associate Membership and the Introduction to IATP session during that conference.
The supplier has provided a letter of recommendation from an IATP member airline on that airline’s letterhead.
The supplier has been recommended for membership by the IATP Supplier Services Committee (SSC) based upon the value the applicant brings to IATP Member Airlines and upon the requirements of those same members.
There is still room for the area the supplier is providing their services, this to avoid high concentration in particular business areas; applications received in excess will be kept on file.
